Wu Leads World Series Team

Commonwealth Games veteran Melissa Wu is leading a small Australian team to China and Japan over the next fortnight to compete in two diving World Series events in the lead-up to the Gold Coast Games. Wu, who at 25 will be competing at her fourth Commonwealth Games next month, will be contesting the individual platform events at both World Series, and will also team up with South Australiaâ€™s Taneka Kovchenko in the platform synchro, the event they will contest on the Gold Coast.

WORLD CHAMPION KEENEY FINISHES ON TOP IN 1-METRE SPRINGBOARD

World champion Maddison Keeney has held off a strong challenge from Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Esther Qin, to win the womenâ€™s 1-metre springboard at the Gold Coast 2018 trials on Saturday. Keeney, who broke through for the biggest win of her career to win the 1-metre world title in Budapest earlier this year, finished on 573.60, with Qin second on 560.95.

O'BRIEN SHOWS BEST FORM IN PLATFORM FINAL

Rio Olympian Brittany Oâ€™Brien has finished on top in the womenâ€™s platform final at the diving trials for next yearâ€™s Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The NSW teenager was trailing Western Australiaâ€™s Teju Williamson after the preliminary round of competition, but lifted her performance in the final to finish with a total of 602.35, ahead of Williamsonâ€™s 575.50.

KEENEY AND SMITH GET JOB DONE ON OPENING DAY OF GAMES TRIALS

Olympic bronze medallists Maddison Keeney and Anabelle Smith have won the 3-metre synchro gold medal on the opening day of the 2018 Commonwealth Games qualification event on the Gold Coast. Keeney and Smith, who also won bronze in the same event at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, have put themselves into the box seat to be nominated for selection for next yearâ€™s Games.

SILVER FOR BEDGGOOD ON FINAL DAY OF GOLD COAST GRAND PRIX

Australiaâ€™s Domonic Bedggood has won a silver medal in the menâ€™s platform final on the final day of competition at the FINA Diving Grand Prix on the Gold Coast. But Australiaâ€™s two womenâ€™s springboard synchro teams both missed chances for a medal when they each recorded a no-dive during their final.

WORLD AND COMMONWEALTH CHAMPIONS TRIUMPH ON THE GOLD COAST

A current world champion and a Commonwealth Games gold medallist have been among the victors on the first day of finals in cold and windy conditions at the FINA Diving Grand Prix on the Gold Coast on Saturday. Australiaâ€™s Maddison Keeney has finished fifth and Anabelle Smith 11th in the 3-metre final at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Keeney, who broke through to win her first major international competition when she took gold in the 1-metre earlier in the week, finished the 3-metre with 335.50 points, with Chinese Olympic gold medallist, Shi Tingmao, taking first place with 383.50.

WU PUTS IN SOLID PERFORMANCE IN PLATFORM FINAL

Melissa Wu has bounced back from a shaky semi-final to finish fifth in the womenâ€™s platform final at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest. 25-year-old Wu, competing in her fifth World Championships, only just scraped into the final after finishing 11th in Tuesdayâ€™s semi-final, but showed her class with a strong finals performance in a field full of Olympic medallists and World champions.
