IFFLAND CEMENTS REPUTATION AS THE WORLD’S BEST HIGH-DIVER

Australian high-diving gold medallist Rhiannon Iffland has promised to keep pushing for her sport to be included on the 2024 Olympic program, after snatching gold in a dramatic final round at the FINA World Championships in Budapest on the weekend.

ANOTHER STRONG PERFORMANCE FROM KEENEY AND SMITH ON WORLD STAGE

Australia’s Maddison Keeney has finished fifth and Anabelle Smith 11th in the 3-metre final at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Keeney, who broke through to win her first major international competition when she took gold in the 1-metre earlier in the week, finished the 3-metre with 335.50 points, with Chinese Olympic gold medallist, Shi Tingmao, taking first place with 383.50.

CONNOR PUTS IN SOLID PERFORMANCE IN MEN’S 3-METRE FINAL

Australian diver James Connor has finished ninth in the final of the men’s springboard at the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. And in further good news for Australia, 1-metre world champion Maddison Keeney and her Olympic synchro bronze medal partner, Anabelle Smith, have both qualified for the individual final of the women’s 3-metre springboard.

WU PUTS IN SOLID PERFORMANCE IN PLATFORM FINAL

Melissa Wu has bounced back from a shaky semi-final to finish fifth in the women’s platform final at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest. 25-year-old Wu, competing in her fifth World Championships, only just scraped into the final after finishing 11th in Tuesday’s semi-final, but showed her class with a strong finals performance in a field full of Olympic medallists and World champions.

WU FIGHTS HARD TO EARN CHANCE FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEDAL

Australian diver Melissa Wu has qualified for the final of the women’s platform at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, despite a few nervous moments. The three-time Olympian was at her brilliant best for the preliminary round, qualifying second behind Olympic gold medallist Qian Ren of China, with Chinese Olympic silver medallist Yajie Si third.

FIFTH FOR AUSTRALIA IN WOMEN’S PLATFORM SYNCHRO

Three-time Olympian Melissa Wu and South Australia’s Taneka Kovchenko have finished fifth in the women’s platform synchro final at the FINA World Championships in Budapest. The Australians dived consistently throughout the final, reaching as high as equal fourth after their second dive and dropping to seventh after the third dive, before climbing back to fifth.

KEENEY BREAKS THROUGH FOR BIGGEST WIN OF DIVING CAREER

Australia’s Maddison Keeney has broken through for the biggest win of her international diving career, winning 1-metre springboard gold at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest overnight. An emotional Keeney fought back tears as she emerged from the pool after her final dive, knowing she had done enough to secure her first ever major gold medal.

KEENEY’S DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY PUTS HER INTO TOP SPOT FOR SPRINGBOARD FINAL

Australian diver Maddison Keeney has qualified for today’s World Championships final of the 1-metre springboard in Budapest in the gold medal position. 21-year-old Keeney finished her five dives in Friday’s preliminary round with a total of 283.80, more than five points clear of China’s Yiwen Chen with Malaysia’s Jun Hoong Cheong qualifying third.

Wu Sets Herself New Challenge at Fifth Diving World Championships

Despite being Australia’s most experienced diver, Melissa Wu will attempt something she has never tried at an international competition in Budapest over the next week. For the first time ever Wu will compete in four events at a competition, an enormous workload but one which the 25-year-old veteran of three Olympic Games is looking forward to.

Diving Australia has named a strong 10-person team for the FINA World Championships to be held in Budapest in July. It includes 7 members of the Rio Olympic Team and boasts an equal number of men and women.
