Youth Olympic Games Recap

Published Mon 22 Oct 2018

The 3rd edition of the Youth Olympic Games has concluded in Buenos Aries after a fortnight of friendly competition between the world’s best junior athletes. The event which is held every four years, showcases a wide variety of sports from archery to wrestling. The Australian Diving contingent was well represented by the pair of Queensland’s Alysha Koloi, and South Australia’s Matt Carter who each competed in their respective 3m springboard events.

Men’s 3m Springboard

Matt Carter came up just shy of a medal after a well fought event finishing behind Russian Ruslan Ternovoi, Great Britain’s Anthony Harding and Colombia’s Daniel Garcia. Carter performed one of the highest degree of difficulty lists including the two hardest dives in the competition a forward two-and-a-half somersaults with a triple twist (5156B), and a front four-and-a-half somersaults tuck (109C). Carter’s finish recorded the highest placing of any Australian diver in Youth Olympic Games history.

Women’s 3m Springboard

Alysha Koloi started strongly in the Women’s 3m Springboard with a pair of the highest scoring dives, but unfortunately faltered in the sixth round hitting the board with her feet. Luckily the Queenslander walked away all smiles and relatively unscarred. The event was taken out by China’s Lin Shan with the Russian and American divers rounding out the top three.

Next Event
