DUBAI BRINGS REWARDS FOR AUSTRALIAN TEAM

There were no medals for the Australian diving team in Dubai at the weekend, but the goal of building on the achievements of Beijing one week earlier was easily achieved.

Maddison Keeney and Melissa Wu both made finals, and the platform and springboard synchro teams finished close fourths.

Keeney showed some of her best form in the 3-metre synchro, finishing fourth in a world-class field behind two Chinese and a Canadian diver.

A week earlier the Perth teenager finished sixth in the final.

Keeney and Anabelle Smith, bronze medalists in the springboard synchro in Beijing, finished just outside the medals in Dubai, while Wu and Lara Tarvit repeated their fourth placing of a week earlier in the platform synchro.

It was Wu who made the big leap in Dubai, finishing an outstanding second in her platform semi, before finishing sixth in the final.

22-year-old Wu took time away from diving at the end of last year, and missed all of the early year events in Australia.

But her performance in Dubai showed she is quickly returning to her best form, with the World Championship selection trials just over one month away.

Tarvit finished sixth in her platform semi-final, another great experience for the young Queenslander.
