SHEEHAN WINS SECOND GOLD FOR AUSTRALIA AT JUNIOR WORLD DIVING

Queensland's Georgia Sheehan, who two months ago was Australia's youngest competitor at the Commonwealth Games, has won gold at the World Junior Diving Championships in Penza, Russia.

It's Australia's second gold medal for the Championships, after fellow Queenslander and Commonwealth Games team member Lara Tarvit won gold in the platform final on Saturday.

Sheehan qualified second for the final behind China's Anxin Song, but turned the tables in the final to finish more than three points clear, with Song second.

15-year-old Sheehan finished the World Championships with three medals - today's gold, a bronze in the 1-metre springboard and a silver with Naomi Gowlett in the 3-metre synchro.

Sheehan had only just turned 15 when she dived for Australia in Edinburgh at this year's Commonwealth Games. She competed in the 3-metre, finishing a close fourth.

17-year-old Lara Tarvit left it to her final dive to clinch gold in the platform on Saturday.

After qualifying in top position, Tarvit made a shaky start, but then jumped from third to first with an almost flawless final dive to grab gold.

Australia finished the World Championships with two gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

Perth's Maddison Keeney won bronze in the 1-metre springboard, while South Australia's Ross Todd also finished third in the boy's 1-metre final.
