World Aquatics Championships 2023, Day 5 Recap

Published Tue 18 Jul 2023

Strong individual performances helped Australia to a fourth-place finish in the team’s event at the World Aquatics Championships 2023.

Whilst not on the Olympic program, the Mixed 3-Metre and 10-Metre team competition is an exciting concept for spectators and also presents athletes with another competition opportunity.

The Australian Team of Maddison Keeney, Shixin Li, Nikita Hains and Cassiel Rousseau scored 426.15 points to finish just six points shy of the podium and bronze medalists, Germany. The gold medal was won by China with Mexico winning silver.

Li’s individual dive off the 3-Metre Springboard – a Forward 2½ Somersaults 3 Twists Pike – was one of the standout dives of the evening, producing a score of 87.75 points.

Rousseau’s Forward 4½ Somersaults Tuck also scored in the eighties, adding 81.40 points  to Australia’s total score.

Earlier in the day, Australia’s women were in action in the preliminary round of the Women’s 10-Metre Platform.

18-year-old Milly Puckeridge finished her first campaign at a World Aquatics Championships with a total score of 267.90 points and 21st position. Her Inward 3 ½ Somersault Pike was amongst her strongest dives of the day.

Tokyo Olympian Nikita Hains advanced to the semi-fnal after she scored 288.50 points in the preliminaries and finished in 16th position. Hains produced a consistent 286.50 points in the semi-sinal but did not advance after she finished outside of the top 12, in 15th position overall.

Competition continues Wednesday with Li in action in the Men's 3-Metre Springboard (individual).
