KEHAGIAS SHOWS HE’S READY FOR NEXT STEP

Hopper’s Crossing teenager Joshua Kehagias showed he is ready to step to the next level in his diving career with two solid results at the Victorian Open on the weekend.

The Victorian 17-year-old won both the 1-metre and 3-metre springboard finals, posting very respectable scores of 390.35 in the 3-metre and 374.35 in the 1-metre.

His run into form could not have come at a better time, with selection trials for this year’s World Championships at the end of next month.

Kehagias competed for Australia at last year’s World Junior Championships in Russia.

With Australia’s leading springboard diver, Grant Nel, yet to return to competition this year, the door is open for several of our best young divers to make a statement.

There was also good news for Commonwealth Games medalist Maddison Keeney, who won the women’s 3-metre final.

It was her first competition since injuring her shoulder in January.

In other results, Nick Jeffree won the men’s platform final, Ruby Neave the women’s 1-metre final, and Laura Hingston the women’s platform final.
