One of the much-loved members of the Australian diving community, Toni Toohey was this weekend formally accepted as a Life Member during the Diving Australia AGM.
Toni is a well-known figure on pool deck at diving events in Queensland and around the country, providing immense behind-the-scenes technical and administrative support.
Diving Australia CEO Alex Newton said, “We are delighted that our members approved Toni Toohey as a life member of Diving Australia.
“She has been part of the diving community in Queensland for over 20 years and dedicates her time, energy and good humour to ensuring everyone in the sport at a local or national level loves their diving experience.”
Toni began her volunteer journey when her children, Connie and Erin, dived with Donnets Diving Club in Queensland before moving to RAPS, where she was a Board member for many years.
Assisting with local club and State competitions, she quickly became indispensable in running the technical elements, and continues to do so to this day. Her dedication to diving in Queensland earned her life membership of Diving Queensland in 2017.
Toni moved into supporting Diving Australia competitions, where she continues to act as Competition Manager ensuring all technical elements of national competitions go without a hitch.
She played a critical role in the delivery of the 2012 FINA World Junior Championships, senior FINA Diving Grand Prix events and the 2018 Australian Commonwealth Games.
Diving Australia Chair, Liz Jack, said “Toni is a well-known and well-loved figure at Diving Australia competitions, and although she is retiring from her work with Diving Queensland, we are incredibly please to know she will remain involved as a Diving Australia volunteer.
“Her can-do attitude and her many positive contributions to the success of diving in Australia make her a well-deserved recipient of life membership.”
