Emerging springboard and platform diver Jaxon Bowshire has been named a Sport Australia Hall of Fame (SAHOF) scholarship recipient for 2024.

The South Australia Sports Institute (SASI) athlete has been awarded a Tier 3 scholarship within the 2024 SAHOF Scholarship and Mentoring Program and is one of 16 rising stars to receive recognition.

Each athlete in the Tier 3 scholarship will receive a grant of $2,500 plus support from SAHOF and its esteemed member base over the next 15 months.

Bowshire was honoured to be recognised for his dedication to the sport of diving.

“With so many other athletes pushing at the same level across a huge amount of sports with the same dedication it really does make me super proud and honoured to be recognised along with some of Australia’s best athletes,” Bowshire said.

“It also gives great recognition for my sport, Diving Australia and everyone in the sport who has helped me along the way,” he said.

Diving Australia CEO Alex Newton congratulated Jaxon on his achievements.

“The diving community is tremendously proud of Jaxon and his achievements in and out of the water,” Newton said.

“As one of Australia’s most promising young divers, Jaxon has a bright future ahead and it is pleasing to see him receive recognition as an SAHOF scholarship recipient for 2024. The financial support and mentoring opportunities available to young athletes through the SAHOF will no doubt support Jaxon as he pursues his sporting goals,” she said.

Bowshire’s consistent excellence earned him the title of Diver of the Year in his age group in the Australian Junior Elite Championships every year from 2018 to the present. His performances in the Australian Elite Junior Nationals have been nothing short of spectacular, with a remarkable streak of individual event medals in every event since 2018, showcasing his dominance and consistency on the national stage.

The 2024 Tier 3 scholarship recipients are Kristy Appleton (water skiing), Jaxon Bowshire (diving), India Colombi (gymnastics – artistic), Angus Grenfell (motorcycle racing), Ella Hose (para athletics), Jack Howell (para triathlon), Samuel Labaki (fencing), Brin Liddell (sailing), Taj Marsh (weightlifting), Alexis Proctor (boxing), Phoenix Sparke (biathlon), Mela Stalker (snowboarding), Felicity Wilson-Haffenden (cycling), Talia Woodroffe (pistol shooting), Olivia Wunsch (swimming) and Luke Zeliff (speed skating).

Over the last three weeks, 32 Sport Australia Hall of Fame scholarships covering 28 sports have been announced, supporting the next generation of Australia’s sporting stars on their journey to excellence and success in sport and in life.

As the nation’s leading sports scholarship program, backed by the Australian Sports Commission incorporating the Australian Institute of Sport, $150,000 of funding has been awarded this year to the recipients for use on resources to help them achieve greatness in their chosen sport. As well as funding via a sporting expenses grant, all three tiers include SAHOF encouragement and support via various initiatives throughout the program.
