RICK SCHAVONE HEADS BACK TO USA

Published Tue 19 Jul 2022

Diving Australia would like to acknowledge the excellent contribution of Rick Schavone to the National Program, in particular the Adelaide program, over the past four years.

Rick is heading back to his native United States where he will take up an assistant coach position at the University of Texas.

During his time in Australia, Rick forged successful partnerships with athletes such as Matthew Carter and Nikita Hains who, under Rick's tutelage have become a World Champion and an Olympian, respectively.

But Rick's ability to connect with all athletes was his true strength, and all of the athletes that have spent time with Rick at some stage over thr last four years have benefitted from his wise counsel.

As a member of the National Coach Panel, Rick contributed to the direction of Australian diving, something which Diving Australia General Manager of High Performance Steve Foley is grateful for.

"Rick is a very good man and a very good coach - I have very much enjoyed working with him here in Australia," Foley said.

"He came to us after the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and quicly showed his worth in Adelaide.

"When Andy Banks moved to Adelaide, he and Rick enjoyed a productive working relationship and I am indebted to Rick for the work he has done for Australian Diving.

"On behalf of Diving Australia, and personally, I wish Rick all the very best on his return to the USA," he said.
