Diving Australia is pleased to announce that it has appointed Dr Rick Schavone as the Adelaide National Coach.

Rick is a world leading diving coach with an enviable level of experience leading a world class diving program. For over 30 years he was the Head Coach of the Stanford University Diving Program and has won more awards than almost any other coach in the NCAA system. He is a 4 time NCAA Coach of the year; a 9 time PAC-10 Coach of the Year as well as being a member of the Team USA Olympic Diving Staff at the London Olympics where he coached Kristian Ipsen to a Bronze Medal in the Men’s 3m Synchronised event.

He has been a USA Diving Coach Mentor for a number of years and most recently has been a Consultant Coach at the Texas University Diving Program.

Diving Australia’s General Manager of High Performance, Steve Foley said “Rick is truly a coaching legend and one of the all time great US Diving Coaches. For him to come to Adelaide to continue on the great work of Michel Larouche through to the Tokyo Games, is a testament to both Australian Diving, and the standard of program that is in Adelaide, supported by the South Australian Sports Institute. He will be a fantastic addition to our National Coach group of Chava Sobrino, Andy Banks and Ady Hinchliffe”.

In accepting the opportunity, Rick said “I absolutely love the diving high performance environment and what Australia is creating down under is something to behold. The Adelaide facility is genuinely world class and I am so excited to get down there and work with the amazing coaches in Adelaide and the rest of Australia, to really help the athletes that give so much to the sport”.

Rick will commence in Australia in late May, before joining the Australian Team at the World Cup in June.
