Australian high diver Rhiannan Iffland was announced 2023 Athlete of the Year at the World Aquatics High Diving Championships.
32-year-old Iffland was awarded the honour following Iffland’s fourth consecutive World High Diving Championships win, becoming the first athlete in High Diving in history to achieve the feat.
Iffland said that becoming a four-time world champion was a big accomplishment, saying: “I knew it was gonna be a fight, so it makes it a bit more rewarding. I’m really proud that I fought for it and didn’t give up.”
Iffland was recognised by coaches, administrators, media, athletes and fans on social media as the best athlete for the previous year’s competition season.
Diving Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Alex Newton said Iffland’s achievements over the last two days were remarkable.
“We are so proud of Rhiannan and all she has achieved in the last twelve months,” she said.
“Rhiannan keeps on raising the bar and creating history with her results, it really is quite remarkable,” Newton said.
Iffland’s achievements wraps up a successful campaign for Australia’s divers at 2024 World Aquatics Championships, with a total six medal haul including two golds, three silver and one bronze.
