Platform and 3-Metre Australian Open Championships Crowned in Perth

The Australian Open Championships at HBF Stadium in Perth came to a close tonight, with national champions crowned across the individual Platform and 3-Metre events.

The Australian Open Championships also doubles as the selection trials for the 2023 World Championships team, to be announced at an awards function on Sunday night following the end of competition.

After winning the Men’s Synchro on Thursday, Cassiel Rousseau (QLD) won the Men’s Platform with an impressive score of 1509.75, ahead of Sam Fricker (NSW) in second and New Zealand’s Luke Spikes in third.

Heading into the Women’s Platform final as the number one seed, Tokyo 2020 Olympian Nikita Hains (WA) held onto her lead to win the Australian Open Championship, ahead of Milly Puckeridge (NSW) and Sofia Knight (NSW).

Former World Champion Shixin Li has continued his fine form in Western Australia, adding the Men’s 3-Metre gold medal to his individual 1-Metre and 3-Meter Synchro victories.

Li’s Synchro partner Fricker won his third medal of the Championships with 3-Metre silver, ahead of Frazer Taverner (New Zealand) in bronze. 

Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games 3-Metre gold medalist Maddison Keeney (WA) won the Women’s 3-Metre event in Perth, with a score of 1030.95, adding to her 3-Metre Synchro silver.

After claiming the 3-Metre Synchro victory earlier in the week, Georgia Sheehan (QLD) and Brittany O’Brien (NSW) returned to the medal dais in second and third respectively.

The 2023 Diving Australia World Championships Team will be announced shortly.
