National Squad member Emily Meaney completes Masters degree

Diving Australia congratulates National Squad member Emily Meaney, who has recently completed her Masters of Physiotherapy.
Meaney completed the two-year degree at the University of Queensland with the assistance of her coaches, support team, friends and family.
“It was definitely difficult and a challenge but so worth it, I really value having something to work towards outside the pool as well,” she said.
“All my coaches and support team really helped me juggle both. If you ask any of them they will tell you it wasn’t easy but we all worked together to help me get through.
“Even though it is my name on the piece of paper there were a lot of people behind me to achieve the degree, including my family and friends.”
Meaney will now put her studies into practice, aiming to secure part-time work as a physiotherapist while continuing competitive diving.
“Going into next year, I am looking for a part-time position as my plate is already pretty full with diving commitments in an Olympic year,” she said.
Meaney hopes that the path she has navigated to successfully complete her studies is something other up-and-coming athletes can look to as evidence you can combine interests outside of your sporting career.
“For younger athletes my advice would be to find something you are passionate about, whether that be studying or a trade; it really helps you within the sport if you have something else to also put your energy into,” said Meaney.
