Michael Murphy elected to AOC Executive

Published Sat 06 May 2017

Diving Australia congratulates its Chairman, Michael Murphy, who has today been elected to the Executive Board of the Australian Olympic Committee.

Mike was nominated by Gymnastics Australia due to both the requirements of the AOC Constitution which does not afford DA the right to nominate a candidate, and also the close relationship between Diving Australia and Gymnastics Australia. We sincerely thank GA for its support of Mike.

Mike’s candidacy was based on a desire for smaller, and/or underrepresented Olympic sports to be heard at the higher levels of Australian sport. His candidacy was not aligned to either incumbent John Coates, or challenger Danni Roche.

“I have a very positive relationship with both John and Danni and highly respect them both. I maintained an independent position leading up to the election today and am incredibly grateful for, and honoured by, to the support given to me by those that voted today.

I’d like to congratulate John on securing re-election and also Danni for her candidacy. I am looking forward to working with Matt, Mark, Craig, Kitty, Evelyn and Nicole as well as John, Helen and Ian. I’d also like to extend my best wishes and commiserations to Andrew Plympton, Rechelle Hawkes, Danielle Woodward and David Hynes who were all excellent candidates but ultimately unsuccessful” said Mike.

The full AOC Executive elected today is:

John Coates (President)
Ian Chesterman (Vice President)
Helen Brownlee (Vice President)
Matt Allen
Mark Arbib
Craig Carracher
Kitty Chiller
Evelyn Halls
Nicole Livingstone
