FINA World Championships, Kazan: Day 2

KEENEY AND QIN LOOK STRONG IN 1-METRE PRELIMS
Australia’s Maddison Keeney and Esther Qin have made a strong start to the women’s 1-metre event at the FINA World Aquatic Championships in Kazan, with both divers moving comfortably into the final.
Keeney made a slow start in the packed field, sitting 29th of 36 after the first dive, while Qin made a solid start to sit seventh.
But when Keeney began her traditional tough dives she quickly rocketed up the leaderboard, moving to 12th after two dives, second after three dives and then qualifying in fourth for Tuesday’s final.
Qin followed up her bronze medal performance with Samantha Mills in the 3-metre synchro with another consistent performance in the 1-metre.
Qin was 10th after two dives and then rose to qualify sixth for the final.
Domonic Bedggood and James Connor performed well to make the final of the men’s platform synchro at one of their first international events together.
But the pair were unable to achieve consistency in the final, eventually finishing in 12th position.
The focus on Monday night turns to the women’s platform synchro, with team captain Melissa Wu and Lara Tarvit in action.
