BROBEN READY FOR NEXT STEP ON ROAD TO RIO

Olympic silver medalist Brittany Broben will take her next step on the road to a possible second Olympic Games when she leads an inexperienced Australian team to a diving Grand Prix event in Singapore next week.

19-year-old Broben has been slowly returning to a full diving program after recovering from a shoulder operation which forced her to miss last year’s Commonwealth Games.

The Gold Coast platform diver said she still has a bit of work to do before she’s back to her London Olympic fitness.

“I’m very excited to compete again overseas,” she said.

“I’m probably more prepared now then I was in Canada and Mexico early in the year, but I’m still not back to my absolute best.

“But I’m looking forward to giving it my best shot again, and looking forward to just competing again.”

Broben also missed this year’s World Championships in Russia, but has mapped out a plan that she hopes will lead her onto the Olympic team.

“These comps aren’t the Olympics, so I try and put myself a little bit ore at ease, and try and use these comps as a good training for the bigger things to come in the future,” she said.

“I have a full list of dives at the moment, but not my Olympic list.

“The 12 month anniversary to Rio made me excited and a bit nervous, but I try to look at it by thinking I still have one year to give it everything I have in training. A lot can happen in a year.”

Broben is hoping she’ll be selected in the Australian team to compete at the Gold Coast Grand Prix event later this month, a competition which is expected to attract world class divers from China, Malaysia, Germany and the United States, among others.

Also joining Broben in Singapore will be world junior gold medalist and  Commonwealth Games team member, Georgia Sheehan.

The springboard team is Sheehan, Naomi Gowlett, and Matthew Carter.

Kurtis Mathews will compete in both individual events, as well as the mix sychronised competitions.

Teju Williamson and Laura Hingston will join Broben in the platform events.
