At the AGM, Chair Michael Murphy announced his intention to step down from his role.

“After eight years in the role of Chair of Diving Australia, I have announced that I will be stepping down from the role,” Murphy said.

“I will step down as DA’s second longest Chair behind the great Philip Pullar. Coupled with my other service as a director and selector, I am very proud to have contributed nearly 20 years back to DA since my career as an athlete.

“Longevity is one thing, but I am also proud of the organisation DA is now and the achievements we have made along the way.

“Our results have continued to be world class, our membership base continues to grow, and we are in a very healthy financial position – a great foundation for the next decade leading into Brisbane 2032. l will continue in my role as an Australian Olympic Committee Executive Member, and will of course continue to provide all the support I can for the sport I fell in love with 38 years ago.

The DA Board endorsed Liz Jack as the new Chair of Diving Australia, a decision welcomed warmly by Murphy.

“I will continue as Chair until the conclusion of a State Association Strategic Workshop in early December, and will use the coming weeks to ensure an orderly transition to Liz who the Board has endorsed as the new Chair.

“Liz has been instrumental in the recruitment of DA’s new CEO – Alex Newton – and she has also taken on more responsibility in other areas. I have been very impressed with Liz’s passion and commitment to make DA better and her skills are undeniable. I have great confidence she will be an excellent Chair, and will forge a very strong leadership team with Alex,” he said.

It was also announced that David Lyons will remain as Deputy Chair. Murphy said “I want to pass on my sincere thanks to David for his support as Deputy Chair, and importantly, my best wishes for an ongoing strong recovery from recent health challenges. I would also like to thank all the Directors I have worked with along the way.

“Finally, I would like to thank all of the wonderful contributors to Diving, the AIS, the AOC and the CGA, our State Institute Partners, our State Associations, our staff, our volunteers and our athletes and coaches – thank you.”
