DIVING AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCES 15-STRONG TEAM FOR JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Published Wed 12 Oct 2022

Diving Australia is pleased to name a 15-person strong team for the FINA Junior World Championships to be held in Montreal, Canada at the 1976 Olympic Pool. This is one of DA’s largest junior teams and our athletes are excited about competing against the world’s best junior divers after a 4-year break from international competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Team will depart for Montreal on November 23rd and return December 6th, with competition dates being November 27th – December 4th.

The Team will be led by two-time Olympian Russell Butler, who will be ably assisted by an impressive coaching staff from all around Australia.

“We have named a great group of promising young divers for this year’s Junior World Championships squad,” said Diving Australia General Manager of High Performance and Pathways, Steve Foley.

"After travel restrictions precluded our emerging talents from participating in competitions overseas in the last few years, this is a huge opportunity for our young athletes to perform on the international stage and measure themselves against the world's best juniors, as we continue building for the future with the support of our top class coaching staff.

"I would like to congratulate all of the athletes and wish them and our coaches all the best in their final preparations, as we look forward to watching them compete in Montreal," he concluded.

The team is as follows:

  • Male Divers: Jaxon Bowshire, Luis Fazzalari, Ben Wilson, Jonah Mercieca, Lachlan Abbott and Zafar Marikar
  • Female Divers: Macie Wheeler, Kiarra Milligan, Paige Gillam,  Lucy Dovison, Sofia Knight, Sam Olivier, Charli Petrov, Ruby Drogemuller and Olivia Roche
  • Team Manager: Russell Butler
  • Coaches: Tommy Michael, Amber Cameron, Harriet Jones and Emma Lynch
  • Technical Officials: Eliza Cole and Kim Hynynen-Furler
