Diving Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Foley to the newly created role of General Manager, High Performance and Technical Pathways. Steve will commence with Diving Australia in early 2017.

Steve is well known to Australian Diving having been involved in all facets of the sport for over 40 years. Initially as an athlete, Steve represented Australia at three successive Olympic Games (1976, 1980, 1984) as well as three successive Commonwealth Games (1978, 1982, 1986). Steve has also been heavily involved in coaching, rising to Head Coach roles at the Australian Institute of Sport and then the Western Australian Institute of Sport as well as acting as the head diving coach for the 1992 Australian Olympic Team. Steve is a Life Member of Diving Australia.

After his coaching career, Steve transitioned into high performance administration. For eight years he was the National Performance Director for British Diving following where he was the architect behind a renewed focus on Synchro diving, culminating in Great Britain’s first Olympic Diving Medal in 44 years, in the Men’s 10m Platform Synchro at the Athens Olympics.

Steve was subsequently appointed National Performance Director for USA Diving and has been highly successful in that role over the last 8 years. During his tenure in the US, the United States has won 7 Olympic Medals across 2 Olympic Games.

In making the announcement, Diving Australia CEO David Bell said “we are thrilled that Steve has agreed to join us and lead all aspects of our high performance and pathways functions. In reviewing our high performance management structure, and giving full consideration to the skillset required for Diving Australia to continue to develop and achieve our goals, Steve was an obvious choice to take on this new role”

Diving Australia Chairman Michael Murphy added “having known Steve for many years and admired from afar his recent achievements in Great Britain and the USA, on behalf of the Board we are very much looking forward to welcoming him home”.

Steve’s appointment will enhance Diving Australia’s strategy to streamline and energise its high performance program and will allow it to continue to build on the great platform already established as we head toward both Gold Coast 2018 and Tokyo 2020.

Diving Australia expects to make further announcements about its 2017-2020 strategy in coming months.
