Diving Australia AGM & 2033+ Strategy
Published Sat 26 Oct 2024
The Diving Australia (DA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Saturday, 26 October, where the new Diving in Australia 2033+ Strategy was formally acknowledged, life members were welcomed, changes to Board membership were recognised, and the 2023/24 Annual Report was handed down.
Developed through substantial member consultation, with the support of the State partners, the 'Diving In Australia 2033+ Strategy' has been designed to take the sport beyond the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.
Alex Newton, Diving Australia CEO said, “The development of the Diving in Australia 2033+ Strategy has been a real collaborative effort between Diving Australia and the State Associations.
“It is the first time all of diving have come together to have one strategy outlining our vision that will lead and guide all our work.”
Lisa Wright, Diving Queensland CEO, said, "We believe the new strategy clearly identifies, highlights, and aligns with the necessary actions we envision at both the state and club levels.
“We look forward to working closely under the governance of Diving Australia to achieve what we believe is not only possible but attainable, based on the outlined strategy and goals."
During the meeting, one of the stalwarts of the Australian diving community, Toni Toohey was accepted as a Life Member.
Toni is a well-known figure on the pool deck at Diving Queensland and Diving Australia events, providing immense behind-the-scenes support and administration.
Diving Australia will formally recognise this achievement at the DA Awards Night in Brisbane on 7 December 2024.
DA Chair, Liz Jack, welcomed two newly elected Directors – 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, Olivia Wright, and entrepreneur and qualified Chartered Practising Accountant, Luke Woods – to the Board.
While Wright joined the Board to fill a casual vacancy last year, she has now won an elected position, along with Woods.
“Both Oliva and Luke bring much-needed commercial, legal and financial skills to the Board, and on behalf of my board colleagues, I welcome them today,” said Jack.
Commenting on the appointment Wright said: “I am delighted to be elected to the DA Board to continue the work I've had the opportunity to start since being appointed last year. My love of this sport runs deep and I'm excited to be part of the incredible leadership team driving the sport to be the best it can be.”
Woods echoed Wright’s sentiments, adding “I am honoured to join Diving Australia’s Board and excited to have the opportunity to contribute to a thriving, inclusive diving community, driving future successes together.”
