Countdown to #Glasgow2014 - Rachel Bugg

Published Sat 12 Jul 2014

Next up is the amazing Rachel Bugg!

Rachel Bugg was almost lost to competitive diving when she decided to retire after the London Olympics. But fortunately for diving and Australia she realised after six months away she still had the passion and announced her comeback.

25-year-old Rachel relocated from Brisbane to her home city of Adelaide last year, and will compete in the 10-metre individual and synchro events in Glasgow. Prior to then, she has the 10-metre synchro to contest at the FINA Diving World Cup in Shanghai.

Rachel’s career highlight was competing at the 2012 London Olympics, where she and her partner, Loudy Wiggins, finished a close fourth in the platform synchro.

Rachel’s new platform partner is Melissa Wu, and despite the pair living in different cities they have shown fantastic chemistry at a competition level.

Like many of Australia’s top divers, Rachel came to diving after a very successful junior career in gymnastics. She often tells young diving aspirants intimidated by the high board you have to “fake it to make it”, admitting to often feeling scared while standing on the 10-metre platform.
