Countdown to #Glasgow2014 - Maddison Keeney
Published Sun 13 Jul 2014
Today we take a quick look at Maddison Keeney!
18-year-old Maddison Keeney announced her arrival on the world stage by winning the 3-metre title at a FINA Grand Prix event in Spain early this year, and followed up with outstanding results at the Commonwealth Games selection trials.
Maddison will compete in the 1 metre and 3 metre individual events in Glasgow, and will team up with Olympian Anabelle Smith in the 3 metre synchro. Before she gets to Glasgow, she will do both the 3 metre and 3 metre synchro in the FINA World Cup in Shanghai.
Maddison grew up in Perth, but moved to Brisbane at the start of 2014 after completing her year 12 exams. At the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, while most of her teammates used their downtime to sightsee, Maddison spent those hours studying for her final exams.
She began taking diving lessons at the age of ten, and prior to this year her most notable achievement was winning silver in the 3-metre at the 2013 Youth Olympic Festival.
Maddison has a reputation as a fearless diver. Very few divers are bold enough to try the dives she attempts off the 1-metre springboard.
