Countdown to #Glasgow2014 - Domonic Bedggood

Published Mon 21 Jul 2014

The countdown continues and today we shine the spotlight on Queenslander Domonic Bedggood!

Australia can thank a crippling back injury for introducing Domonic Bedggood to diving.

At the time he was competing at Brisbane’s high performance centre, when an accident on the high bar left him with a fractured back.

It was just three years ago, and while the injury brought down the curtain on Domonic’s 10-year gymnastics career, it allowed him to try his hand at diving. Doctors told him it would be less stressful on his back, and Domonic wasn’t ready to stop competing.

After just three years in the sport, Domonic is ready to contest the individual and synchro 10-metre platform events in Glasgow. In the synchro he’ll dive alongside Olympic gold medalist Matthew Mitcham.

He may also compete in the individual 3-metre event.

19-year-old Domonic says his career highlight so far was beating Matt Mitcham in the Commonwealth Games trials, and winning the platform event at the 2013 World Championship trials.
