Countdown to #Glasgow2014 - Anabelle Smith
Published Mon 14 Jul 2014
Continuing our countdown to #Glasgow2014, we today take a look at the amazing Anabelle Smith!
Glasgow will be 21 year old Melbourne-born Anabelle Smith’s second Commonwealth Games, and she’ll be hoping to improve on her bronze medal in Delhi four years ago. In India she was focusing on the 10-metre platform, partnering Briony Cole to the podium finish.
Since then Anabelle has concentrated on the 3-metre springboard, with considerable success; competing in the 3-metre synchro in London alongside Sharleen Stratton, the pair finishing fifth. The previous year Anabelle and Sharleen had finished third at the FINA World Championships.
In Glasgow Anabelle will once again compete in the 3-metre synchro, this time with Perth teenager Maddison Keeney, and will also contest the 3-metre individual event. First up though is the FINA World Cup!
Anabelle underlined her toughness as a competitor last year, when she prepared for the Barcelona FINA World Championships with her hand in a splint after crushing a finger in a training accident.
She had to have micro and plastic surgery and ignored doctor’s advice to continue training.
