Commonwealth Games Day 3

More medals than events!

On a day that featured 3 medal events, the Australian Diving Team picked up 4 medals!

With the morning session featuring W1m prelims, Australia's 3m Synchro Gold Medallists, Esther Qin and Georgia Sheehan qualified strongly in first and second for the evening's final.

Still in the morning, and our Men's 10m Synchro team of Dom Bedggood and Declan Stacey were hunting the podium. It was not going to be easy with Olympic medallists Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow in the comp but our guys were exceptional. They pushed both English pairs all the way and after an excellent final dive, their best of the day, they won the bronze, just 2 points from Silver and 8 from the Gold. Big things to come for Dom and Dec we are sure!

Into the evening session and unfortunately Esther Qin could not replicate her prelims form. In a true testament to her fighting strength, after a poor first dive had her in 12th position, she fought back on each dive improving her position to claim the bronze.

Georgia Sheehan was consistently strong and won the silver medal behind an impressive Grace Reid from Scotland. Georgia's reward was a shiny Medal, a Borobi, and the chance to watch the Men's 3m Synchro with royalty. Prince Edward asking for an Australian Diver to give him some insight to the unfolding competition.

Fantastic effort G and E for doubling up on the podium and giving Aus a chance to win more medals than events on Day 3.

Final event of Day 3 saw Matt Carter and Dom Bedggood and James Connor and Kurtis Mathews go head to head with the reining Olympic Champions of Jack Laugher and Chris Mears.

Jack and Chris were too good for the field it must be said (Jack claiming 3 Gold from his 3 events) but the tussle for the silver and bronze was thrilling. Matt and Dom dived fantastically well and nearly pipped the Canadians for the silver but getting on the podium in the Bronze position concluded our 3 event 4 medal day! James and Kurtis finished in 6th position.

A great day for Australia! Congrats to all!
