Commonwealth Games Day 2

Yes, Melissa Wu is a legend!!!

With the higher individual boards starting on Day 2, Australia had the 6 divers looking to make an impact. First up was Men's 3m prelims with Kurtis Mathews, James Connor and Matt Carter.

Matt had a fantastic prelim, and finishing with an exceptional 5156B for over 85 points. He qualified second into the final. James was his usual consistently good self and qualified in 8th for the final. Unfortunately Kurtis was unable to progress and is now looking toward the 3m Synchro competition on Day 3.

Up next was Women's 10m Prelims and Australia's 3 divers were jockeying for position for the Final as all 12 competitors would qualify for the final.

Melissa was very very good, and gave a hint of what might be to come. She qualified in 3rd behind the ominous looking Malaysians. Brittany O'Brien put together a solid list and finished in 7th. Right behind was Teju Williamson in 8th in a good performance - especially considering the preparation she has had for the event.

On to the night session and the crowd and conditions were perfect. A few short showers did nothing to quell the excitement!

Jimmy was fantastic. A great tussle and a real lift in intensity from prelims and he found himself on the podium for the second time in 2 days. A fighting Bronze behind an again dominant Jack Laugher with Phillippe Gagne from Canada in the Silver.

Matt fought back from a couple of small misses and should be so proud of his 6th placed finish in his first Games.

There is not much to say about the Women's 10m final other than Wow. Melissa was just exceptional. Searching for superlatives. A fantastic comp and near perfect execution. She saved her best for last with her highest scoring dive of 76.80 just enough to edge in front of multiple Olympic Medallist Meaghan Benfeito from Canada. Lois Toulson from England taking the Bronze.

Mel is a legend. And now she has an individual Gold Medal to back it up!

Brittany and Teju were really good finishing 7th and 11th respectively, but I don't think they'd mind it being all about Mel today.

What a Star!
