Australian divers continued their community outreach last week with National Squad Member Emily Boyd joining Olympics Unleashed efforts.

Olympics Unleashed, organized by the Australian Olympic Committee and State Governments, connects current and aspiring Olympians with local Australian schools to inspire and motivate students to be their personal best.

In her visits last week Boyd spoke to students at Cecil Planes State School, Bowenville State School, and Wellcamp State School. All schools within the Darling Downs Southwest Region of Queensland.

Boyd says the initiative allows her to develop her own professional skills while undertaking important community outreach.

“Participating in the Olympics Unleashed program has given me a great opportunity that has not only helped me grow as an athlete but also as a person.” Boyd said, “I never in a million years thought I would be able to speak publicly and enjoy doing it.

“Every athlete has a different story to tell and being able to share mine with kids from all over Queensland is definitely one of my highlights of being an athlete.

“I love being able to visit kids and really help them to feel inspired and encouraged to unleash their passion.”

One of the key goals of Olympics Unleashed is to engage with students outside of major metropolitan cities. So far the initiative has connected 214 athletes across all sports with more than 1,600 schools.

“I love visiting the regional schools in Queensland. Being so isolated and far away from everything, they don’t receive the same opportunities. So, when someone comes to visit, it doesn’t matter who it is, they appreciate so much more.” Boyd said.

“It is always a humbling experience that makes me feel so lucky and truly grateful.”
