Published Mon 04 Sep 2023
Diving Australia (DA) is pleased to announce its Athlete Committee Athlete Support Grant (ACAS) program - now called Beyond the Boards - is returning in 2024, with a total of $20,000 in funding available to share amongst suitable candidates.
The DA Athlete Committee is now accepting applications from suitable individuals who would like to apply for a slice of the funding pool. Eligible applicants may apply to be considered for a single cash payment of up to $2,500.
The grant program's objective is to support athletes as they set themselves up for a career post diving. Athletes may use the money to support business development or educational endeavours.
Current or retired SIS/SAS athletes, or previous athletes on an AIS Diving Scholarship may apply, with former grant recipients spanning Diving Australia Alumni, the National Squad and current and former SIS/SAS athletes.
Australian Diving Team Alumni and 2022 grant recipient Annarose Keating received funding to support her professional development.
When Keating’s plans to study and volunteer overseas were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic she elected to further her studies here in Australia.
“The ACAS grant helped me further my studies in infection protection and control, to be able to work in the COVID-19 crisis at aged care facilities in Victoria,” Keating explained.
“This was an amazing opportunity to learn how to appropriately care for others in a global pandemic utilising full personal protective equipment (PPE). Through this experience I have learnt invaluable skills that I will take into my future career," she said.
Former NSWIS athlete Nick Jeffree used his funding to kickstart his career as a Strength and Conditioning Coach.
"With the help of the ACAS program, I was able to complete my Level 1 in Strength & Conditioning in association with ASCA,” Jeffree said.
“Through this, I was able to land a job with my University which allowed me to coach various semi-elite sporting teams including the UTS AFC Bats,” he said.
Athletes are encouraged to download the information pack (via the link below), which contains the eligibliity and selection criteria as well as official application form.
Applications may be submitted to athletecommittee@diving.org.au no later than 1 October 2023.
