AUSTRALIAN DIVING TEAM ARRIVE IN MONTREAL AHEAD OF WORLD AQUATICS WORLD CUP

Published Fri 05 May 2023

The Australian Diving team have arrived in Montreal, Canada ahead of the second World Aquatics World Cup event of the season.

Athletes from 21 nations have assembled in Montreal for the three-day event, which will be the last chance for the world’s best 3m and 10m divers to earn points to qualify for the 2023 Super FInal in Berlin, Germany in August.

Cassiel Rousseau (10m and 10m Synchro), Domonic Bedggood (10m Synchro), Sam Fricker (10m, 3m and 3m Synchro), Shixin Li (3m and 3m Synchro), Maddison Keeney (3m and 3m Synchro), Alysha Koloi (3m Synchro), Nikita Hains (10m), Emily Meaney (10m), Georgia Sheehan (3m and 3m Synchro) and Brittany O’Brien (3m and 3m Synchro) will all represent Australia at the World Cup.

Tokyo Olympian and Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Sam Fricker said he’s looking forward to getting back into international diving.

“We were fortunate enough to fly over to America and compete in Indiana last week, which was really good and a great competition. I was really happy with my performance that I put down there,” Fricker said.

“I’m definitely feeling more confident now coming into this event, it was good to get the ball rolling and get back into a routine of competing again.

“This weekend I really want to get into my rhythm again, and keep chipping away at my routine. I want to put down a solid score, but mainly focusing on the process of competing,” he said.

Fricker said that the World Cup event this weekend will be important as the team continues to build towards the 2023 World Aquatics Championships and 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

“This World Cup will be really good for competition experience - getting in front of the judges and competing against the same people that we’ll be competing against at the World Championships and Olympic Games,” Fricker said.

“This year I’m going to try and do as much Springboard competition as I did last year. I’m loving doing a combination of Springboard and Platform, it’s something that I’ve found effective in both training and competition.

“It’s something that I’m hoping to continue for not just this World Cup, but as we continue to work towards the Paris Olympics as well,” he said.
