AUSTRALIA SENDS SMALL BUT TALENTED TEAM TO GERMANY
Published Wed 13 Jan 2016
Olympic silver medalist Brittany Broben and World Junior gold medalist, Georgia Sheehan, have been named in a five-strong Australian diving team to compete at the German Diving Championships and the German Diving Grand Prix later this month.
Also named in the team is two-time Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, and 2012 Olympian, Anabelle Smith.
The short European trip will be an important tour for the small Australian team, as momentum builds towards final team selection for this year’s Rio Olympics.
Australia has already qualified two divers in each of the individual events at Rio, but the final team won’t be selected until the Australian Championships in Melbourne in May.
Sheehan and Smith have both been selected to compete in the 3-metre events in Germany, while Broben and 16-year-old Melbourne schoolgirl, AnnaRose Keating, will compete in the 10 metre events.
Gold Coast Grand Prix silver medalist, Joshua Kehagias, is the only male diver on the team, and will compete in the 3-metre events.
The tour begins in Berlin from January 21 until January 24, and then the team heads to Rostock the following weekend for the German Grand Prix.
