Australia’s Maddison Keeney has finished fifth and Anabelle Smith 11th in the 3-metre final at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Keeney, who broke through to win her first major international competition when she took gold in the 1-metre earlier in the week, finished the 3-metre with 335.50 points, with Chinese Olympic gold medallist, Shi Tingmao, taking first place with 383.50.

Smith finished with 268.95 points.

Keeney was equal fourth after her opening dive of the competition, but then slipped back to eighth after the second round.

After four dives the 21-year-old had climber up to fourth, and with her most difficult dive to come, was within striking distance of a medal.

However it wasn’t to be, Keeney finishing just 1.20 points behind fourth placed Grace Reid of Great Britain.

Earlier Domonic Bedggood finished just one position short of qualifying for the final of the men’s platform.

Bedggood finished 13th in the platform semi-final, while teammate Declan Stacey finished 18th at his first major international event as a member of the Australian diving team.
