Age Champs are back, bigger than ever

Published Mon 14 Apr 2025

The biggest Australian diving event of the year is set to take over the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre this week as the 2025 National Age Championships gets underway on Wednesday (April 16).

The five-day championships, delivered in partnership with Diving Queensland will feature over 250 competitors from across the country as well as visiting New Zealand divers.

Diving Australia’s General Manager of Participation and Sports Development, David Hunsdale, is pleased to see the continued rise in the sport’s popularity and is looking forward to welcoming divers from as young as nine, right through to those aged 65 plus, to the Sunshine State .

"Participation has risen steadily across the country over the last few years off the back of the fantastic work of our state partners, clubs and member coaches,” said Hunsdale.

“These numbers are reflected in our Age National Championships, which continues to grow, and we can't wait to host everyone at this year's event.

“It's outdoors, at a former Commonwealth Games venue, and a very similar environment to what Olympians will experience at LA28,” he said. “Fingers crossed the weather is as good as I know the energy will be from all our competitors.”

In conjunction with the individual events is the return of the prestigious State Team Challenge.

The Challenge will see teams from each state battle it out for points, with the highest ranked competitors from each age group progressing through to a sudden death grand eliminator.

Following the final day of competition will be the Age Awards Dinner where age champions will be crowned, Alongside the Club of the year and State of the Year

The Age Championship and Age Awards Dinner will seek to showcase and recognise the talented divers, coaches, officials, volunteers and clubs that have and continue to shape diving in Australia.

The 2025 Age National Championships will run from Wednesday April 16 - Sunday April 20.
