2022 Australian Championships Calendar Announcement

Published Thu 17 Feb 2022

Diving Australia is pleased to announce the dates and locations for the Australian Age, Elite Junior, and Open Championships for 2022.

It has been a challenging process to lock in dates due to changing international calendars and ongoing COVID logistical issues but we are now in a position where we are confident these events will now be able to go ahead as set out below.

With the success of last year’s 2021 Australian Age Championships in Brisbane, the event will now move to Adelaide for the 2022 edition to be held April 21-24* at the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

Adelaide last held the event in 2017 where more than 200 divers competed. The venue played host to the 19th FINA World Junior Diving Championships in 2012 and served as the home of the Australian Olympic Team Selection Trials in the same year.

Sydney is set to host the 2022 Australian Elite Junior Championships July 6-9* at the home of the 2000 Olympic Games, Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. The 2022 National Skills Final will also be held in conjunction with the event.

The 2022 Australian Elite Junior Championships will also serve as the qualification event for the 24th FINA World Junior Diving Championships to be held in Montreal, Canada in November/December 2022

Australia’s premier diving event, the Australian Open Championships will be held at Melbourne’s Aquanation in Ringwood for 2022. The event which brings together Australia’s top divers will be held June 1-4*.

This year the Australian Open Championships will also serve as the selection event for the Australian Teams to compete at the Extraordinary FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and the XXII Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham, Great Britain.

Alongside the event calendar, Diving Australia has released its Vaccination Position Statement which governs national events and diving training. The Position Statement has taken into consideration a range of factors including but not limited to, a duty of care towards members, minimising risk of transition, and operational logistics of holding competitions.

The three-Australian-Championships-slate, combined with the Vaccination Position Statement, will afford Australian divers of all levels the opportunity to compete against their national peers in a risk minimised environment.
