FUTURE COMMONWEALTH GAMES DIVERS HEAD TO EUROPE
The future of Australian diving will be on display over the coming fortnight, with 13 of the country’s most promising junior divers competing in major European events.
The junior team will compete in the Amsterdam Diving Cup in the Netherlands from April 14-17, and then travel to Dresden to compete in the International Youth Diving meet from April 21 until the 24th.
Seven members of the team are part of the 2016 NextGEN AUSComGames squad, a generous funding program from the Australian Commonwealth Games Association designed to help prepare athletes for future major international competition.
Allie Klein, AnnaRose Keating, Jayah Mathews, Kate Rosman, Brodie Scapens, Kurtis Mathews and Matthew Carter will all be travelling to Germany courtesy of the Next GEN program.
They’ll be joined in Amsterdam and Dresden by Nikita Hains, Jade Sweeney, Shiori Bak, Corey Pace, Lachlan Cronin and Ethan Newnham.
The Next GEN program has already seen four of Australia’s most promising divers compete internationally this year.
AnnaRose Keating and Georgia Sheehan travelled to Germany in January, with Keating making the platform final and Sheehan the springboard final.
Sheehan and Brittany O’Brien competed at the Puerto Rico Grand Prix earlier this month, with Sheehan again making the springboard final and O’Brien making the platform final.
Sheehan and Teju Williamson competed in the Canada Cup on the weekend.
Dresden has proved a happy diving destination for Matthew Carter, who won a gold and a silver medal at last year’s competition, following on from a silver medal he won at the same venue 12 months earlier.
