SHEEHAN GETS OFF TO A WINNING START IN 2015

Queensland schoolgirl Georgia Sheehan, the youngest competitor on Australia's Commonwealth Games team last year, has made a winning start to her 2015 campaign at the Gold Coast Diving Grand Prix.

15-year-old Sheehan won the 3-metre springboard final by less than three points, with Olympian Anabelle Smith finishing second.

Sheehan missed a medal at last year's Commonwealth Games by just 0.05 of a point, finishing fourth in the women's 1-metre springboard final.

The Brisbane student then went on to win gold in the 3-metre springboard at the World Junior Championships in Russia.

Sheehan qualified second for today's 3-metre final, just behind Smith.

Another of Australia's stars of the future, Perth's Maddison Keeney, failed to make the final after recording a no-dive in the preliminary round.

Sheehan and Smith dominated the final, finishing more than 30 points ahead of Victoria's Ruby Neave in third.

Kurtis Mathews made it two from two for Queensland divers today, winning the men's platform final ahead of WA's Alex Smedley.

The Gold Coast Grand Prix gave Australian divers a first look at the diving venue for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Grand Prix circuit moves to Brisbane next Friday.
