10 named for Budapest

Published Mon 29 May 2017

Diving Australia has named a strong 10-person team for the FINA World Championships to be held in Budapest in July. It includes 7 members of the Rio Olympic Team and boasts an equal number of Men and Women.

Olympic medalists Melissa Wu, Anabelle Smith and Maddison Keeney headline the team, as well as Commonwealth Games Gold medalists Domonic Bedggood and Esther Qin. Olympians Kevin Chavez and James Connor round out the 7 from Rio.

The newcomers are 16 year old South Australian Matthew Carter (who will partner Kevin Chavez in 3 metre Synchro), Taneka Kovchenko (who will contest both the individual 10m and partner Melissa Wu in 10m Synchro) and former elite gymnast Declan Stacey (who will compete individually and also partner Domonic Bedggood in 10m Synchro).

Each of Australia's high performance programs (supported by NSWIS, QAS, SASI, VIS and WAIS) have strongly contributed to the team and DA remains indebted to them for their support of our National program and direction. Our thanks also to our major partner, the AIS who are excellent supporters of DA.

The team will leave Australia in early July ahead of competition dates in Budapest of 14 to 22 July.
