Wellbeing and Engagement

Australia's newly launched High Performance 2032+ Sport Strategy defines Integrated holistic athlete development as the development of an athlete that encompasses their physical, emotional, mental and social requirements, to achieve sustained success both as a person and in their athletic pursuits.

Diving Australia supports our athletes to make evidence-based decisions on all life domains to enable them to thrive both during their time in the sport of Diving and after. To achieve this, we endeavour to deliver the best practice services, programs and individual wellbeing care through one-on-one delivery and in established programs for our Diving athletes. Diving Australia strives to ensure that our athletes’ experience of the diving high-performance program is encouraged and supported, and that upon retirement athletes can talk about and reflect positively around their time in our sport. We do so by empowering athletes, assisting them to develop their knowledge and skills, and self-drive actions tailored around their individual needs using a holistic approach.

The Diving Australia Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement Manager (AW&E) providers support to National Squad athletes as they navigate HP programs, empowering them to find a balance between wellbeing, engagement in activities outside of training and competition, and the requirements of elite sport. This includes providing athletes with opportunities for personal and professional development, as well as ready access to tailored mental health (MH) servicing and meaningful community engagement initiatives. Underpinning all ‘operational’ considerations is a cultural foundation that ensures that an athlete’s experience of a HP program is affirmative, encouraged, and supported, and that athletes can talk positively about their time in sport.
