About Emily

Tasmanian born Emily Meaney made the decision to relocate to Brisbane in 2011 when she was still at school to further her diving career. After she graduated, Meaney moved to the US where she attended Purdue University in Indiana and was a member of the diving team between 2016-2021.

Meaney made her Commonwealth Games debut at The Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022 where she qualified for the final in 12th position and ultimately finished fifth overall.

In December 2023, Meaney graduated from the University of Queensland with a Masters of Physiotherapy.

  • How did you get your start in diving? I used to do swimming lessons at the local aquatic centre but it wasn’t really my thing. I convinced Mum to let me try diving instead as I thought it looked way more fun, haven’t looked back since!
  • Who is your diving inspiration? Hannah Thek (ex Australian diver and all-round brilliant person). As a young diver I admired her work ethic and kindness, and it continues to inspire me!
  • Favourite place to dive? Napoli, Italy
  • What do you love about diving? The people I have met and the places I have been thanks to the sport. Also, the feeling after nailing a dive is pretty unbeatable!
  • If you weren’t a diver, what sport would you do? Pole vault (not sure I’d be any good, but always wanted to give it a go!)
